Pittsfield middle schooler one-step closer to Scripps National Spelling Bee

Emily Escalon Brizuela is a student at Reid Middle School in Pittsfield. She is one of 17 spellers advancing to regionals, after winning the Jonathan Levine Middle School Spelling Bee last month.

A middle schooler from Pittsfield is taking the next step to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

As NewsChannel 13 reported last month, Averi Olds from Herberg Middle School also qualified for regionals.

The Region 4 Bee will take place virtually on March 8.

The next stop is the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.
