Retired teacher’s gift keeps giving to others
Retired teacher Deborah Oertel ignited the spirit of giving by not only coming out of retirement to privately tutor her former student, Hunter, but also to provide a special gift this holiday season to children in similar circumstances.
Hunter felt ill one day. His parents, Jerry and Heather, quickly took him to the doctor. The family found out after some tests that Hunter had leukemia.
Oertel no wasted no time offering her support. Her dedication went beyond academics.
She started an organization called Hunter’s Elves. It helps sponsors come together to send children a special gift while they recover in the hospital.
That quickly snowballed into a tidal wave of generosity.
