Wednesday was National Unity Day, – so students and staff at Maple Avenue Middle School wore orange, and took part in a Unity Walk.

The theme of the day is understanding what is like to walk in someone else’s shoes.

Students decorated shoes to wear during the walk to help spread the message.

The day was driven by the school’s “No Place for Hate” group.

“It’s basically to help all of the people that feel like they’re not worth to be on the earth, or just that are just sad, depressed because of who they are or what they want to be,” said Theodore Bruno, an 8th grader.

The students also designed a sign to hang over the entrance to the school, that they hope will make all students feel welcome.
