Mom, brother of missing Scotia teen find purpose helping others

This is day two of our special series on the Albany Ride for Missing Children. This 13th annual ride, which takes place on Friday.

There are families in the Capital Region that have been searching for loved ones for years and years – like the Frear family. Craig Frear disappeared 18 years ago from Scotia.

A group of 100 cyclists are preparing for a 100-mile journey to support families who are searching for missing loved ones.

The Ride for Missing Children takes place on September 23.
The family of Craig Frear is among the participants.

Frear disappeared June 27, 2004.
He was about to begin his senior year at Scotia-Glenville High School.

Next month would be Frear’s 36^th birthday. He was last seen walking into the woods, along train tracks near the Cambridge Manor Apartments in Scotia.

Just last summer – June of 2022 – state police conducted a search in this case – for the first time in four years. NewsChannel 13 was the first on the scene for that search.

Both Craig’s mother, Veronica, and older brother Matthew – have found hope and purpose through the Ride for Missing Children.

Matthew Frear is now one of the leaders of the ride. He helps come up with the route for ride day.

The goal for the Frear family has grown from raising awareness about Craig’s disappearance, to protecting children from all evils.
