The controversial Drag Queen Story Hour scheduled for Saturday morning at the Rockwell Falls Public Library in Lake Luzerne is officially postponed.
The official reason given for the postponement of the story hour was that the library board — in their words — felt they needed to do additional research into the performer and the content of the show.
That’s even though they have known about the performer and the content for more than four months.
The person who was perhaps most looking forward to reading books to children is Jacob Evans. When he’s in drag, he goes by the name “Scarlett Sagamore.”
Evans is disheartened by the library board’s decision, he said. He feels as if he’s being singled out as a scapegoat.
The most disturbing part of the decision to him is that in the eyes of many people, it casts a negative light on him, he said, and it calls into question his moral aptitude and character.
He also believes kids are missing out on a valuable learning opportunity, he said.
