Frigid start to the day on Saturday

Bundle up, Capital Region. The coldest weather of the year is here. The Alert Day by the First Warning team continues into Saturday morning due to the combination of the frigid air and gusty winds.
The area will face wind chill values of 10 to 30 below zero. Wind chills of 40 below zero will be possible in some of our higher elevations.

The core of the coldest air came through Friday night, with lows between minus 5 and minus 20 degrees. Wind chill values were 20 to 40 below zero Friday night and Saturday morning.
Despite sunshine, highs will only reach up to around 5 to 15 degrees on Saturday. However, the wind will let up. So wind chill values will not be as cold on Saturday afternoon.
Temperatures will warm up for the second half of the weekend, with mostly cloudy skies and highs back up into the 30s to near 40 on Sunday.
