Report lays out specific problems with Albany’s long-vacant Central Warehouse

ALBANY – The long-vacant Central Warehouse in Albany is described as an immediate public safety hazard. If repairs do not get done, the owner could face more issues.

It’s all outlined in an 18-page report from the city of Albany that 13 Investigates obtained.

As you may recall, parts of the building recently came crumbling down, forcing Amtrak to suspend some of its service.

The owner of the Central Warehouse, Evan Blum, was ordered to make a laundry list of improvements. Several of them have a deadline for Friday, according to this report.

Much of the renovations have to do with sealing roofs, windows and doors so water does not continue to pour into the concrete building.

Also on the list is removing garbage and registering the eyesore as a vacant building.

However, the city’s buildings director, Rick LaJoy, does not believe anything is going to happen.

If Blum doesn’t fix anything by the deadline, LaJoy says his department will most likely have to do it.
The city has already spent over $200,000 to make necessary emergency repairs, but it’s all billed to Blum.
